ELECTION ADDRESS

Hello! I'm Katy (she/her), a fourth-year student studying Educational Studies and Sport. I'm the current Dance Captain for the Cheerleading Club, where I previously served as Vice-Captain. Additionally, I'm a 2nd-year intern with the Pleasance Gym. Being heavily involved on committee as well as Sport and Exercise at the university has been a huge positive influence on my experience, and I want to give back by helping others to have a similar experience.

If elected as Media Officer, my primary goal would be to ensure that every member of the Sports Union feels valued and represented, alongside promoting inclusivity and equality. I have experience creating content and promoting events on social media through working with the marketing team at Pleasance and on the Cheerleading Club’s social media channels. These experiences have advanced my skills in team working, organization, and marketing, which I am confident make me the perfect candidate for this role.

MANIFESTO

As Media Officer, my primary goal would be to ensure that every member of the Sports Union feels valued and represented, as well as promoting inclusivity and equality. A few of my priorities for this role include:

  1. Providing training for individual club media officers and social secs, to allow them to promote their own clubs and events better, consequently increasing participation. For example, I would like to provide all clubs with training on how to livestream matches, in order to expand the ‘Wednesday Focus Fixture’ that has been promoted this year.
  2. I would like to ensure that there is equal recognition for smaller, often under-represented clubs. One way that I plan to  enact this, is through ‘Club of the Week’, ensuring it is awarded based on participation and inclusion achievements, alongside sporting achievements.
  3. Finally, I would like to continue the work done this year to promote inclusivity days and events, such as the Rainbow Laces Campaign, Black History Month, LGBTQ+ History Month, International Woman’s Day and more. I would like to see more clubs involved in promoting these events and ensuring that the Sports Union at Edinburgh is a welcoming space for all students.
