Edinburgh Sports  Goes Live!

After several years of anticipation, we at EUSU are proud to announce that our live-streaming service is now available weekly! All you need to do is keep a keen eye on our social media for updates on our latest live streaming match. For our opening round of fixtures, we welcomed the early BUCS season with two matches between our very own Women’s Lacrosse Team against Durham’s. Vice-Captain, Kat Ruhland was quoted to be ‘very excited at the prospect of sharing her passion of the game to a wider audience’.

On Wednesday, we were able to livestream matches between the 1s and 2s who were fending of against two very strong Durham teams. Meanwhile, the 3s headed for an away match against Glasgow and the 4s set off for Dundee. While there were some tethering problems at the start of the 2’s team match, the issues were sorted in no time along with some good commentating provided by the 1’s goalie. In each livestream broadcasted, a team will send out a representative to provide some commentary and live reactions as the game progresses.

In the two hours played, the women’s team fought tooth and nail and gave an excellent display in front of both a live and online audience. The two matches displayed were exhilarating and full of intensity against the more experienced opposition. Despite the defeat though each player was noted to have held their held their head up high. The defensive displays were particularly worthy of note though drawing praise from the spectators, as duels and one on ones were handled immaculately well.

The typical Scottish weather brought things to a bittersweet end as we had to end our livestream at the end of the first quarter of the 1s match. With the hurdles overcome and knowledge learned, we will be sure to give you an evermore awesome experience through our livestreams.

Next up, we have Men’s Water Polo which will be held at St Leonards Land vs Manchester Metropolitan University The team will be defending their title as the first Scottish University Team to win the Premier BUCS Championship last season.

Men's Captain Luca D'Aderrio was excited at the prospect of the live stream:

"The mens’ first team has always had a large supportive fan base who keenly follow the team throughout their BUCS journey every year. We’re excited to be able to bring our first match of the season to our friends, family, and alumni in the UK and abroad. This would be a great opportunity to connect our community and advertise water polo as a sport."

No team regardless of their individual skill sets can achieve success without a high level coaching team. The Men's Water Polo team was led by University of Edinburgh Sports Union Coach of the year Alasdair Campbell. Club Captain Luca is well aware of the strength of the resource pool for Water Polo in Edinburgh too.

"Edinburgh University’s water polo teams are a massive resource to the sport of water polo in Scotland as a whole, acting as a stepping stone for talented juniors looking to move into senior water polo. Thanks to the support from our Sports Union, our water polo program has become amongst the best in the country, providing high-quality training to both our first and second teams. We hope to continue on this path to establishing a legacy of performance water polo in Edinburgh."

Do get your phones and laptops out and be ready for a guaranteed quality performance from our team, no matter where you are!
