Karate Club

Whether you're looking to get fit, compete or just make new friends, everyone is welcome at EUKC!

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us via email, facebook or instagram.

Formed in 2019 from the merger of the University's Shotokan and Shukokai clubs, Edinburgh University Karate Club is a student run club offering professional tuition in Shotokan and Shukokai karate. Amongst our regular socials and occasional adventures away from Edinburgh, we offer a packed programme of 10 classes every week, which includes Shotokan and Shukokai styles of karate, Kobudo, Sport Karate and Fitness sessions.

Gearing our training towards beginners at the start of the academic year, we provide excellent training for all abilities - whether you want to become a blackbelt, compete, or get flexible and fit. We compete at BUCS and SSS events - where everybody from Novice to Senior grade can represent their University. Gradings in both styles are also regularly available at the club.

If you are interested in joining, we recommend first making full use of your two week free trial, then speak to our Membership & Licensing Officer.

Check out our website too for more details!

Which Membership?

Detailed information regarding memberships can be found on our website here.

All prospective members fall into one of three categories: Student at the University of Edinburgh, Student elsewhere ("Non UoE"), and Non-Student. You should only select an option relevant to your student status.

However, students elsewhere and non-students must first apply via an application as we are limited by a non-UoE student quota. The 2024/25 application is here. For Mid-Semester applications, we ask that you follow up with an email to the club as well.

Please be aware, to join this club you must have purchased a Sport & Exercise Gym Membership, which is available HERE
