Orienteering Club

Orienteering is an outdoor adventure sport involving navigating around a series of checkpoints using a map to choose the best route, whether this is running during a competition or walking a course.

Our club welcomes those of all abilities from complete beginners to top elites, offering weekly training and a variety of social events and trips away.

We are one of the university’s most successful clubs - we've been BUCS Champions for the last 10 years!  And the women's team were proud recipitents of this years BUCS Team of the Year Award after a perfect score at this years BUCS. which also led to them picking up the Scottish Students Team of the Year Award as well. We were British Orienteering club (and university club) of the year in 2021, and one of our athletes won the Sports Unions Male Athlete of the Year award for 2021.

Whilst being proud of our achievements, we love exploring new areas, seeing new faces and most of all getting stuck into some lovely terrain, both in Edinburgh and all over the country. Whether you fancy racing around some courses and trying to beat your friends, or learning how to navigate and taking your time, our members do it all!

We have regular weekly training outlined below, but check our Facebook group for the specifics:

  • Tuesday - Running Intervals
  • Wednesday - Long run, Pasta night
  • Thursday - Orienteering training
  • Weekends - We have regular trips away to orienteering competitions and for training to parts of the UK such as the Lake District & the Highlands. On weekends where we aren't away we may travel to closer orienteering events and if not there are sure to be people going for a long run in the Pentlands.
