Volleyball Club

EUVC has 5 competitive teams, 2 competitive development teams, and 1 recreational league.

Hello there! Thank you for showing interest in Edinburgh University Volleyball Club, we are really excited to have you here!

Volleyball is an amazing team sport that pits two groups of 6 against one another, trying to make a ball drop on the opponent's court. It has everything you would like from a sport: running, jumping, throwing, hitting, pushing, and so on, and so on. But most importantly, it has an amazing community around it with very helpful and really nice people.

We welcome students of all skill levels: from novice to international level, we have something for you! We have five competitive teams (two men's, three women's) all competing at various levels in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) league and the national-level Scottish Volleyball League. We also have two competitive developmental teams that focus on player growth, while providing some official match game-play opportunities to novice players. Finally, we offer one recreational mixed-gendered league for anyone looking to enter the sport or just play for fun!

Each of our competitive teams trains once to thrice per week and plays once or twice per week. Our competitive developmental teams train once or twice per week and play intermittently at every available opportunity! We also have three indoor recrational sessions, and offer recreational outdoor grass sessions which are great fun when the terrific Edinburgh weather grants its mercy!

Besides this excellent range of volleyball action on the court, we regularly organize social events for both alumni and students to bring the whole club together for some fun! We have weekly gatherings in Frankenstein's and club nights in Boteco. We also organise some fun events over the year, such as EUVC families' night, treasure hunts, tournaments, and fancy dinners!

FAQ:

When will I know my training schedule?

Your training schedule will be clearly delivered once you have been allocated to a team. You can also find the preliminary schedule on our website.

Which team membership should I get?

If you are considering playing recreationally, then you can just buy one of our recreational memberships without any further action. If you want to play with a competitive team then you should attend one of our tryouts during welcome week. In case you arrive during the semester, after tryouts have passed, then feel free to drop us an email and we will try to figure something out for you.

What are memberships used for?

Memberships are the primary source of income for the club. We use the money to pay for very many things, including hall rental fees, transport costs, hiring referees, paying coaches, and purchasing new equipment.

Why are memberships so high?

We try to keep membership costs adjusted to the amount of training, transport, and coaching each team gets. As you can imagine, the costs of paying for these is very high in the UK so we have to adapt our prices accordingly.

Please be aware, to join the competitive teams, you must have purchased a Sport & Exercise Gym Membership, which is available HERE
