CPD Opportunities

 

It is important to constantly look for ways to develop yourself in line with your professional responsibilities and ambitions. This can range from volunteering your time with a sports club or charity, taking on a summer internship or going through professional qualifications. There are also numerous FREE courses put on by sporting and non-sporting organisations that can help boost your knowledge and make you more employable.

Careers Service

The University of Edinburgh Careers Service has a wide variety of resources available to students and staff looking to develop themselves or take the next step in their career. The Careers Service can be found at the following locations:

  • Central Area: 3rd Floor, Main Library Building, George Square, Edinburgh EH8 9LJ 
  • King’s Buildings:  1st floor, the Nucleus, Thomas Bayes Road, Edinburgh EH9 3FG  (next to the Noreen and Kenneth Murray Library)

Edinburgh Award

The Edinburgh Award is a skills development programme administered by the Careers Service and delivered by the SU. There are two versions available to participate in:

  • The Leadership version is open to anyone in a Sports Union club committee role, and participants will have the opportunity to participate in CPD opportunity to participate in CPD opportunities alongside their chosen skills.
  • The Coaching version of the Award is open to any student currently registered as a coach with in a Sports Union club. This version will help develop coaches through coach-specific CPD and skills development.

First Aid Courses

The Sports Union have organised two first aid courses in Semester One through St Andrews First Aid to provide the Sports Injury Level 1 qualification, valid for 3 years.

Course Two Information

  • Time: 9am to 5pm 

  • Location: Bells Meeting Room, Pleasance Sports Complex & Gym, 46 Pleasance, Edinbrugh, EH8 9TJ

  • Cost: £82.68 + £0.99 transaction fee 

  • Deadline to sign up: Monday 25th November 2024

You can purchase a space on the course here: Sports Union (ed.ac.uk), under the ‘Products’ tab.

Coaches registered with the Sports Union can apply for up to one-third of the course cost through the Coaching & Officiating Fund, which opens in October, however there are limited funds available, and the amount awarded can depend on other applications as well. Therefore, we also recommend contacting your club and asking them to fund a portion of the course.

Add-Victor Ambassador Programme Add-Victor are looking for passionate athletes, whoare actively engaged in sport to join their ambassador programme where you can increase awareness of Add-Victor while gaining hands-on professional experience in an area of your choice.
